Detecting Leaks

Simple leak detection:
  • Pool level will not stay constant

  • Larger than typical water bills; with auto fill on your pool the water level is always constant.  Turn off water to auto fill; see if pool level goes down.

  • Increase in the need for pool chemicals

  • Check for cracks in decking

  • Check skimmers for cracks

  • Has the light nitch been sealed?

  • Water standing on exterior of pool

Possible symptoms of leaks:
  • Air bubbles in the pump can be a possible source of a leak in the skimmers and main drain lines

  • Leaks from pump seals & gaskets will cause air bubbles

  • Air bubbles coming out of return lines
Leak Testing Procedures by Richard’s Lawn Sprinklers and Swimming Pool Service:
  • Check all pool equipment for leaks

  • Pressure check the skimmers

  • Pressure check the returns

  • Pressure check the pool sweep line

  • Pressure check the main drain depending on water temperature

  • Dye test the light

  • Check for cracked and missing tiles

  • Helium injection, if needed to locate leak in possible cracked pipes
